A young man lost both of his legs after falling from a moving train during a mobile snatching incident. The accident took place between Shahad and Ambivli stations on the Central Railway (CR) line. The incident shocked commuters about safety and theft on local trains.
The victim has been identified as Gaurav Nikam. He was standing near the door of the moving train when a thief snatched his phone. In an attempt to resist or hold on, Gaurav lost his balance and fell onto the tracks. His legs were crushed under the train.
Fellow passengers saw the incident and immediately informed the railway officials and emergency services. Gaurav was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Doctors later confirmed that both of his legs were permanently damaged. He is currently receiving treatment and remains under close medical observation.
The accident has once again highlighted the risks passengers face while travelling on crowded local trains. During rush hours, many people stand near open doors, often using mobile phones, which makes them vulnerable to such crimes and accidents.
The Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force have started an investigation. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby stations to identify the accused. Authorities have also advised passengers to be careful and avoid standing close to the doors, especially while using phones.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media. Many users have demanded better policing and stronger security measures to prevent such crimes on Mumbai’s local train network.
