Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar unveiled the city's cyber cell-focused project's logo on Wednesday, February 7. Recently, the Mumbai Police took a significant step forward in the fight against cybercrime. They set up advanced cyber cells in each of the city’s zones in July last year.

These cyber cells are not just ordinary police units. The officers assigned to these cells have undergone specialised training, earning them the nickname ‘Cyber Commandos’. The Mumbai Police Commissioner has now unveiled its 'Cyber Shield' logo.

CyberCell's efforts have already resulted in numerous financial rescues. The Cyber Cells have also been instrumental in raising awareness about cybercrimes and preventing them. This proactive approach has led to a significant increase in the detection of cybercrime, from 11% in 2022 to 22% in 2023.

Reports suggest that the helpline helps save INR 70 to 80 lakh every day. The Cyber Police helpline number 1930 has also proven to be a valuable resource for citizens. It has helpline has helped people save a total of INR 25 crore.

During the logo unveiling event, 200 police officers received training from cyber experts. These trained officers will further impart their knowledge to a thousand more officers and staff. This will ensure that every police station is equipped to handle cybercrime.

Deven Bharti, Special Commissioner of Police; Satyanarayan Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner; and special guest GS Rana, General Manager, State Bank of India, were also present at the event.

In a report by FPJ, Special Police Commissioner Deven Bharti highlighted the helpline's success, stating that it helps save between INR 70 and INR 80 lakh every day. While the Cyber Cells have made significant strides, there is still a long way to go. The goal is to reach 75 to 80 percent of the population that is yet to be reached through cyberspace.
