On Thursday, August 19, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with Mumbai Police has busted five fake doctors operating in the slums of Govandi-Shivajinagar areas of north-east Mumbai.

According to reports, a joint team of the BMC and Mumbai Police raided the premises of the five doctors who had been checking up on the patients in the slums. Moreover, these fake doctors charged huge sums of money in order to conduct various treatments. The officials further stated that these doctors had no medical degrees or certificates or registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council or any other authority and were found to be impersonators.

However, they continued treating people in the slums for all kinds of diseases, injuries or wounds, administering injections, giving or prescribing medicines, advising surgeries, etc.

On the other hand, the Mumbai traffic police have commenced its door-to-door drive in an attempt to collect the pending traffic fines. During the past two weeks of the said drive, INR 1 crores have been said to be collected. The officials are aiming to target the top 25000 individuals who cumulatively owe the Traffic Department INR 120 crores.

The traffic police were compelled to start this drive because a large chunk of motorists was not paying their dues. To be able to collect the payments, the force was left with no other option, but to undertake the said regime. As part of this initiative, two constables equipped with body cameras will visit the motorists’ homes and ask for fine payments.
