Some people in Mumbai will now have to think twice before committing any crime in the future, as the streets of Mumbai, will now be monitored every movement, by the police, using their third eye.

As per reports, the officials have planned to increase the security in the city after 26/11 and taking action regarding the same, the civic body has installed CCTV cameras on important roads in Mumbai, and has planned to add many more to different streets across the city. Reports state that the officials are aiming to install 3 lakh CCTV cameras, and as a first step, Mumbai Police will soon get 7,000 additional CCTV cameras.

Earlier, after the 26/11 terror attacks, around 5,000 CCTV cameras were installed in Mumbai, and the Fadnavis government then decided to increase the same. However, thieves have taken advantage of the lack of CCTV cameras in many areas, often making it difficult for the police to identify the culprit. Keeping this in mind, the Mumbai Police has decided to set up a network of CCTVs with the help of private establishments with the idea that CCTV can be used to reduce crime in the city and be a major tool for surveillance in big metros.

Areas like shops, offices, hotels, assembly halls, religious places, residential societies etc. will be included and the administrations have been asked to install cameras. The network of around three lakh devices will be set up in the city after the installation of CCTV in many private establishments is completed. The department stated that the move will make it possible for the team to monitor every nook and corner of the city and help in reducing crime.

Initially, a total of 7,000 additional CCTV have been ordered and with the additions further, the department now aims to make more than two and a half lakh CCTVs available across private establishments. Apart from this, the police have informed that action will be taken against the establishment of an incident is reported and no CCTV is found, as this would reduce the possibility for Police to take action.

Complaint against the establishments will be filed under section 188. However, officials have stated that they do not want to force it on anyone, but the same is being suggested for the safety of the city and private establishments, which should take the initiative and help the police. Similar observations have been made in cities like Delhi.
