Mumbai Police's Crime Branch has initiated extradition proceedings to bring back Anmol Bishnoi from the United States. Anmol, the younger brother of imprisoned gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, is suspected of orchestrating a shooting incident at Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s Bandra residence. Following the April 14 incident, a non-bailable warrant and a Red Corner Notice were issued by the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court. This Red Corner Notice, a global alert by Interpol, seeks international assistance in locating and detaining Anmol as the police build their case for extradition.

Evidence Links

The investigation has uncovered crucial evidence connecting Anmol Bishnoi to the attack. According to police, recorded conversations between shooter Vicky Gupta and Anmol reveal coordination efforts, with Gupta reportedly forwarding these recordings to his brother, Sonu Gupta, who has now become a key witness. The police have presented WhatsApp chats and audio recordings in court, which reportedly match Anmol’s voice sample, adding weight to the charges. The attack on Khan’s residence was a brazen incident in which two shooters fired multiple rounds at the actor’s home in the early hours before escaping.

Investigation and Arrests

The April shooting has triggered a series of arrests, with six individuals now in custody. The latest arrest was made on May 14, when Harpal Singh, also known as Harry, a 25-year-old from Haryana, was detained on suspicion of financing the shooters. Other individuals in custody include Mohammed Rafiq Sardar Choudhari and shooters Vicky Kumar Gupta, 25, and Sagar Kumar Pal, 24. Anuj Thapan, another accused, reportedly died by suicide on May 1 while in police custody. Authorities have also detained Sonu Subhashchandra Bishnoi, 37, who is believed to have supplied firearms and ammunition to the shooters alongside Thapan during a meeting in Panvel.

NIA Offers Reward

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has joined the hunt for Anmol Bishnoi, offering a ₹10 lakh reward for any leads on his location. Already charged in two separate NIA cases from 2022, Anmol is under heightened scrutiny due to alleged links with the murder of senior NCP politician Baba Siddique, which authorities suspect was carried out by the Bishnoi gang. As part of the ongoing probe, the Mumbai police have also requested the central government for custody of Lawrence Bishnoi, currently held at Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat, to further advance the case.
