Mumbai has been receiving threat calls stating that a 26/11-like attacks can happen again. In response to the ongoing threat of terrorism, and the rising need to monitor anti-social activities Mumbai Police came up with a comprehensive plan to keep an eye on critical areas of the city. Police are deploying a sustainable number of high-resolution CCTV cameras across the city. Their plan is to install 5,837 cameras by the year-end.

Mumbai, the financial hub of India, has an extensive network of landing areas. Over 100 critical locations that might witness any anti-social activities have been identified in the city. Local police stations and the central police control center have implemented round-the-clock surveillance management and supervision.

A Mumbai Police Official stated that the deployment of CCTV cameras at these critical locations is a key component of the efforts taken by the officials to keep a security check and prevent any terror attacks on these routes.

At the Sagar Nagar slum of Malabar Hill in south Mumbai a CCTV camera was installed, significantly extending the network of cameras in the city. Senior law enforcement officials have underlined the value of thorough coverage.

The second stage of the CCTV camera installation effort has begun with this deployment. When Devendra Fadnavis was the chief minister at the time, the first phase was started in 2016. The project was first envisioned as an ambitious step to strengthen the city's security in the wake of the terrorist attacks of 26/11. The city's police intend to install an additional 5,837 cameras in 2,300 sites during the current phase, in addition to the 5,260 cameras that are already in place at 1,500 locations. L&T, a company with government contracts to provide services to the Mumbai police, is working with us to handle these cameras.

A survey done in 2016 by the Indian Navy, which encompassed the 800-kilometer coastline of Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, and Raigad, led to the decision to increase security through monitoring. The state administration was prompted to take preemptive efforts to bolster coastline security after the survey revealed key landing spots.

The effort of Mumbai police to enhance the monitoring network demonstrates its commitment to ensuring the security and safety of one of India's most renowned cities. According to Satyanarayan Chaudhary, joint commissioner (law and order), this program is expected to considerably improve the capacity to identify and address any security concerns that might materialize at these important landing locations. The extra cameras will aid with crime detection and traffic monitoring. The majority of cases are now resolved with the aid of CCTV cameras. According to a Crime Branch officer, this will substantially boost detection rates.

Earlier this week, the Mumbai Police Control Room received a threat call, informing the operator that certain individuals in Mumbai were manufacturing bombs to blow up the Control room. After calling in a hoax regarding a terrorist attack at the iconic Taj Hotel in the city on September 1, a 36-year-old man was detained by Mumbai Police. The Santacruz police department has filed a lawsuit. On August 31, the Mumbai police control room received a call stating that two Pakistani nationals were planning to enter Mumbai across the coastal line and detonate a bomb at the Taj Hotel. But Mumbai Police is taking charge and doing its best to control any anti-social activity or any terror activities in the city.
