In a shocking news, four cases of chain snatching were reported in Mumbai in 36 hours. The incidents occurred in Malad, Jogeshwari, Byculla and twice in Andheri areas of the city. The total value of the stolen items is about INR 3.65 lakh reported Mid-day. 

The first case was reported in Dindoshi. A 45-year-old woman was walking with her mother near Datta Mandir Road in Malad East. Two men on a motorbike approached her from behind and snatched her gold chain worth INR 55,000. The incident happened early in the morning. She immediately informed the Dindoshi police.

The second incident occurred near Kalpataru Tower on the road from Powai to Jogeshwari. A 55-year-old woman from Jogeshwari East was going to her work. Two men on a bike approached her and snatched her gold chain and mangalsutra. The incident also left her injured. The woman filed a complaint at the MIDC police station. 

Further, on the same day, late evening, another case was reported in the MIDC area. A 42-year-old woman from Andheri East was returning home when two bikers targeted her near the Onida company gate. They stole her gold chain valued at INR 1.17 lakh. She also reported the crime to the MIDC police. 

The fourth incident happened near the "S" bridge in Agripada. A 60-year-old woman from Chameliwadi Byculla was assisting her family into a taxi when two men on a motorcycle snatched her gold chain worth INR 98,000. She reported the case to the Agripada police station around 4:34 pm. 

Police officials from all the mentioned areas have launched investigations and are actively searching for the suspects.

Last week, the Kalyan crime branch arrested four members of the Irani gang. This gang is suspected to be involved in 70 cases of chain snatching, mobile theft, and vehicle robbery in Mumbai and its suburbs, including Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan. 

Police have recovered stolen assets worth over INR 50 lakh from the suspects. In Thane alone, the gang has been involved in 40 cases of chain snatching, 24 cases of mobile theft, and six cases of vehicle robbery. The suspects admitted their involvement in 70 cases. 

The arrests were made after the Kolsehwadi police in Kalyan found a connection between one of the accused. After receiving a tip-off, officers found the suspects in Ambivali and arrested them.

In December, a total of 11 chain-snatching cases have been reported across Mumbai.
