The recent fire tragedy at Kamala Mills Compound's 1Above and Mojo's Bistro shook the city and keeping the New Year celebrations in mind, Mumbai Police had increased the security for improved safety, law and order in the city. Based on the information received, the number vehicles which run on Mumbai roads on December 31, 2017, have increased in comparison to that of last year.

Further, the data says that around 565 drivers were caught for drinking and driving last year, and the number of cases in this case has also increased.

Mumbai is one of the cities where New Year parties are celebrated in a grand manner and a majority of parties include the consumption and availability of alcohol. Therefore, the traffic police in the city were planning to make the regulations strict during the inspection. There were police present to take action against drunk drives at many points this year. However, despite the awareness, it is a disappointment to see an increase in the number of those cases.

As per the report, the Mumbai Traffic Police took action against a total of 3188 cases, out of which 615 cases were about those who consumed alcohol and drove on the night of December 31.

Just like many previous years, more than 1.5k policemen were on the roads yesterday to inspect. Officials from the police department have been making efforts to bring a change in responsible driving, but the ratio, in this case, seems to have increased. In addition to the above-mentioned drink and drive cases, the police have also taken action on people driving without helmets (199 cases), over speeding (2 vehicles) and vehicles parked in no-parking zones (620 cases).
