A Mumbai businessman has been cyber-frauded of four lakh rupees in the name of registering a tent and flight ticket for the Kumbh Mela. A 55-year-old female complainant from Lower Paral is engaged in the business of selling wooden products. She was planning to go to Prayagraj with her husband. For that, on February 7, she searched the internet to buy tents online. At that time she found a website called Tent City Mahakumbh.
A mobile number was given in it. When contacted, after some time a person called her through WhatsApp. The person took information about her and fellow passengers. Also demanded advance amount for registration of two tents. The complainant woman sent INR 35,000.
After realising the fraud, she lodged a complaint with the police on February 12. A case has been registered under sections of cyber crime and online fraud and police investigation is on to trace the accused and recover the amount. For this, the information of the bank account to which the complainant sent the amount has been requested. The search is on through it. Officials said that a request has also been made to freeze the amount in these accounts.
Precautions to take
While searching for any information or mobile number on social media or the internet, verify it. The accused alter the information in the search engine and upload their mobile number in it. Or sometimes fraud is done through fake websites. Incidents of cheating on Kumbh Mela, income tax, as well as special discounts on purchases of goods are currently on the rise. Cyber gangs are working behind this and in the last three months, the accused have cheated the citizens of the state worth more than one thousand crore rupees. Avoid paying in advance at such times. Avoid money transactions.
