On late Sunday, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), conducted a raid at Mahim beach wherein they managed to arrest a drug peddler. He was caught with hashish worth Rs 10 lakhs.

At the same time, the agency also came across many youths, teenagers and men partaking in illegal activities and managed to nab 15 of them. These people were then brought in front of their parents.

Sameer Wankhede, NCB's Zonal Director, led the team that caught the peddler, Shamim Nagor at Mahim. An NCB source also added that the said individual was peddling drugs to young individuals that also included teenagers, in Mahim. Owing to his actions, Nagor has been booked under the NDPS Act.

Some NCB sources also claimed that the agency has been receiving emails from Mahim residents speaking about the nuance caused by the drug use. Few residents even took it upon themselves to meet with some NCB officials to discuss possible solutions to the drug problem. In accordance with this, the NCB began setting up surveillance and were on their toes in regard to tip-offs.

While conducting the raid, the team also came across young minds in large numbers whose behaviour was rather suspicious. The team then went on to counsel these youth about the negative ramifications of their activities and some of their parents were also called. These 15 to 20-year-olds were informed about the consequences of their actions and parents were also offered the opportunity to connect with NGO's if they wished to send their children to rehab centres. According to a preliminary investigation, it was found that the peddler was selling drugs to the youth with the aim of getting them addicted to it. These youth were warned and eventually sent home.

An NCB Officer mentioned that these actions not only affect the users and parents but society as a whole.
