The Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami, who has been in judicial custody, in connection with Anvay Naik's suicide case has not been able to get immediate relief from the Bombay High Court, even on Saturday, November 7, 2020.

As per reports, a bench of Justices Sambhaji Shinde and Makrand Karnik heard the interim release petition, after obtaining the consent of the parties. However, it is said that the court has refused to grant him interim bail. The bench stated that Arnab could seek bail under Section 439 from the sessions court and has also ordered that the same can be decided in the next four days if approached.

The bail request was made by Arnab's advocate Harish Salve who argued that the government was aware regarding the court not being open due to Diwali holiday and Arnab would not be granted bail. Adding more, he said that it was for the same reason that he was arrested, so as to teach a lesson.

His legal team, on Wednesday, moved high court with regards to his arrest and appealed for relief on an immediate basis. Considering the Anvay Naik case was closed in April 2019, his team appealed that the detention was illegal and was being investigated again without the required court order. His team further stated that the concerned order had to be sought by the police officer without which the case could be reopened.

Arnab was arrested from his Lower Parel residence with regards to Anvay Naik's suicide case, whereby, the late 53-year-old architect had accused him and two others of non-payment dues worth INR 5.40 crores. Naik passed away in May 2018, after which, his wife Akshata had lodged a complaint stating that Anvay had taken such a drastic step due to mental stress and pressure caused due to payment-related issues.
