With Republic TV being under the scanner for a while now, Republic Media Network’s Assistant Vice President Ghanshyam Singh was arrested this morning by the Mumbai Police, as per reports.

Ghanshyam Singh who heads Republic Media Network’s Western Region Distribution has been arrested for alleged manipulation of the TRP ratings.

In the recent past, especially with the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, several sections of the media have been severely criticized over the unjust and intrusive journalism which had led to widespread conjecture and continual mudslinging. On the other hand, Mumbai Police’s investigation regarding the actor’s death had been heavily criticized by media house Republic. However, in an interesting turn of events, Mumbai Police, on October 8, 2020, shared details regarding the TRP scam in a press conference held in the city. Commissioner of Police, Param Bir Singh, had claimed that certain channels, which included Republic TV, were manipulating the TRP ratings and the data released by BARC.

Meanwhile, Arnab Goswami, Republic TV Chief, was earlier arrested with regards to the death of Anvay Naik, who was found dead on the first floor of his farmhouse at Kavir Village in Alibaug. Naik had left an alleged suicide note accusing the senior journalist. However, the case was closed and was only reopened after Naik’s daughter met the DIG and produced more evidence.
