Central Railway (CR) conducts intensive ticket checking in Suburban, Mail Express, Passenger services, and special trains across all divisions to curb ticketless and irregular travel in order to provide comfortable travel and better services to all bonafide rail users. Senior Officers are closely monitoring the revenue loss due to ticketless travel and such other irregularities.

During the current FY 2023-24 for April-October 2023, a total of 27.32 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel and un-booked luggage were detected for April-October-2023, ticket checking revenue was ₹176.17 Crores.
Number of (Ticketless, Irregular Travel, Unbooked Luggage) passengers caught in Lakhs and Penalty imposed on them in crores.

Central Railway appeals to the passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets in order to avoid inconvenience and travel with dignity.
Besides, Western Railway (WR), during the month of October 2023, recovered an amount of INR 13.32 crore through detection of 2.17 lakh ticketless/irregular passengers, including unbooked luggage cases. Also, in the month of October, WR realised fines amounting to INR 3.64 crore through detection of over 77,000 cases over Mumbai Suburban section.
Moreover, to prevent unauthorised entry in Mumbai AC local trains, frequent surprise ticket checking drives are carried out on both CR and WR.
