In yet another development in the Payal Tadvi suicide case, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stepped in and transferred the case from Mumbai Police to Crime Branch.

Payal's family has claimed that they never said that it was a murder and not a suicide case which is contrary to their lawyer Nitin Satpute's claim.

Payal committed suicide on May 22 as her seniors Dr. Ankita Khandelwal,  Dr. Hema Ahuja and Dr. Bhakti Mehere allegedly harassed her with casteist slurs. The three accused were absconding and were arrested on May 28. The case was transferred to Crime Branch as Payal Tadvi's mother was concerned by the way Mumbai Police was handling the case.

In the autopsy report, it came to light that she had ligature marks on her neck and bruises on her body which is hinting that it could be murder.
