During the combing operation, officers from Unit 03 of the Crime Branch became the target of a group of suspected burglars. At around 1 am, the criminals unleashed a hail of gunfire, leaving one police officer injured. The injured officer was swiftly taken to Sassoon Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Arrests Made in Connection with the Attack
Despite the assailants' attempt to evade justice, the Pune Police swiftly responded to the attack. In a commendable display of efficiency, five individuals involved in the attack were apprehended. According to the police, the combing operation was underway in MHADA Colony, Warje when officers and personnel from Unit 03 of the Crime Branch noticed suspicious activity near Rosary School. Acting promptly, the police attempted to apprehend the suspects. However, one of the individuals brandished a firearm and opened fire, resulting in the injury of a police officer. Despite the unfortunate turn of events, the police managed to capture five of the assailants, ensuring that they face the consequences of their actions.
Suspects at Large and Ongoing Investigation
Following the initial attack, additional suspects joined the fray and exchanged gunfire with the police. Taking advantage of the darkness, the assailants managed to flee towards a nearby hill. As a result, an extensive search operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects. The police remain dedicated to bringing all those involved in the incident to justice.
Seizure of Incriminating Evidence
As part of the investigation, the police conducted a thorough search of the arrested individuals and recovered several items of interest. These included a Gavathi katta firearm, four live cartridges, two iron knives, a Katavani screwdriver, and a hammer.
