A three-month-old puppy was recently found beheaded in the Dahisar area on Sunday, December 27.

According to sources, animal activists backed by Mumbai Animal Association (MAA) have lodged an FIR for the same. As per reports, a local feeder found the torso of the dead pup behind Samaj Kalyan hall road, near Jari Mari gardens, Anand Nagar, Dahisar (east).

Assistant commissioner of police (Anti-Corruption Bureau) Sudhir Kudalkar, in a statement, said: "I spoke to the on-duty inspector at Dahisar police station after the animal activists informed me of the horrible animal brutality case. An FIR was lodged under section 429 of the IPC and the relevant sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960."

On the other hand, earlier, a man was arrested for allegedly torturing a stray dog at Vishnu Nagar police station in Thane, Maharashtra. As per reports, an animal welfare activist had caught the man torturing the canine and then with the help of his colleagues handed over the accused to the police. Moreover, the informant had reportedly recorded the accused attacking the stray dog in order to provide evidence to the police.

The accused identified as Ramsamajh Tilthu Chauhan is a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Dombivali. The accused has now been booked under section 11(1) (Treating animals cruelly) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
