Molestation cases are on rise in local trains as either victims are ignoring the incident or are afraid to approach the police. As per the recent figures from the Government Railway Police, there is an increase in incidents of molestation, as per the report by the Free Press Journal.
Horrific incidents of molestation reported in local trains
On Wednesday, a 26-year-old woman from Kandivali faced harassment at Churchgate. She was sitting near the window and when the train to Malad stopped, suddenly a man appeared. “Will you have sex with me,” he asked, leaving the victim shocked.
The Wadala Railway Police booked a 30-year-old man who had been stalking a 23-year-old woman for years. He used to follow her on the journey from Chunabhatti to Seawoods.
The railway administration reported that about 2,800 CCTV cameras are currently active at suburban stations, with feeds monitored continuously by the RPF and GRP. Officials stated that there is a proposal to increase the number of cameras to cover black spots. At night, women's coaches are managed by the GRP, and 200 Maharashtra Security Force personnel are assigned to platform duties at suburban stations.
