Two people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly gang-raping a 17-year-old minor girl from an autorickshaw on Friday at Nagindas Pada in Nalasopara East.

Tulinj police officials said that the victim, a resident of Mumbai, often used to visit Nalasopara to meet her friend. Two weeks ago, she was introduced to one accused, Sonu (18), who worked as a photographer at a studio adjacent to her friend's house. The accused and the girl exchanged phone numbers. On Friday, Sonu called the girl to Nalasopara saying that he wanted to take her out for a walk.

On Friday afternoon, the young woman came to Nalasopara to meet Sonu. He then picked her up from the place where they decided to meet and brought her to his studio when no one was around. He locked the doors and started demanding sexual favors from the girl, which she refused.

As per the investigating officer, when she was about to leave, the other accused came outside Sonu's studio driving an auto rickshaw. Sonu stopped the girl, pushed her into a rickshaw and forcibly took her to a secluded area in Nagindas Pada where she was physically and sexually assaulted.

The duo then abandoned her in the bushes and fled from the spot. The injured girl returned to her home and narrated the incident to her parents, following which a complaint was lodged at Tulinj police station. Based on their complaint, the police registered an FIR against the two accused under Section 70 of the Indian Penal Code.
