In a major relief for passengers travelling to the Konkan region during the upcoming Ganeshotsav, a new daily special train service between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Sawantwadi Road will be introduced from September 11.
According to Konkan Railway, Train No. 01103, the CSMT–Sawantwadi Road Special, will operate daily from September 11 to September 26. The return service, Train No. 01104, will run from Sawantwadi Road to CSMT from September 12 to September 27.
The new service has been introduced to handle the expected surge in passenger traffic during the Ganesh festival, when thousands of people from Mumbai travel to their hometowns in the Konkan region.
The CSMT-bound train will depart from Mumbai CSMT at 3:30 pm and reach Sawantwadi Road at 4 am the following day. The return train will leave Sawantwadi Road at 4:35 am and arrive at CSMT at 4:40 pm on the same day.
The train will stop at several important stations, including Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Zarap, among others. An additional stoppage at Sape Wamne and Vinhere has also been announced for the CSMT–Sawantwadi Road service during the festival period.
The 22-coach train will comprise two AC 3-tier coaches, 12 sleeper coaches, six general coaches and two SLR coaches.
The introduction of the new service is expected to provide an additional travel option for passengers heading towards Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and other parts of the Konkan region during the festive rush.
The move comes as railway authorities prepare to operate a large number of special services between Mumbai and Konkan destinations for Ganeshotsav 2026 to accommodate the heavy passenger demand.
