Robbery at Dadar's Marine Aqua Zoo; Unidentified person stole pythons, monitor lizards

Animals have been stolen from Marine Aqua Zoo in Shivaji Park Zoo. Six pythons along with two monitor lizards, a lizard were stolen. All the stolen animals are of foreign species. The BMC on Monday cracked down on the alleged unauthorised construction in Zoo. Exotic animals were stolen after the unauthorised construction of the zoo was demolished. The Marine Aqua Zoo  administration has alleged that political vendetta is behind the action. A case has been registered against an unknown person following a complaint by the trustees of the Marine Aqua Zoo.

Which animals are in the zoo?

Rabbits, cockatiels, mallard ducks, carpet pythons up to 14 feet, ball pythons up to 6 feet, blue tongue skink, emperor scorpions, iguanas, Bengal marble cats, red-eyed slider turtles, and alligators. 


Who owns Marine Aqua Zoo?

The site is currently owned by the Wildlife Wanderers Nature Foundation and Nandkumar Moghe. Nand Kumar Moghe was an IAS officer. He has worked in various big positions like Wildlife Advisor in Maharashtra Government, Wildlife and Zoo Advisor in Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Co-Chairman of Tiger Safari of Maharashtra Government. Balasaheb Thackeray and Nandkumar Moghe had family relations. Balasaheb encouraged Moghe to create many sanctuaries and national parks in Maharashtra. Currently Moghe stays at home, his son Yuvraj Moghe manages the foundation and Marine Aqua Zoo. The museum operators say that we are also running an organisation to educate people about such animals.
