In a significant development, months after the Shraddha Walkar murder took place, the Mitricondrial DNA report has confirmed that the hair and bone samples recovered by Delhi Police were of the deceased.

This statement came after the Delhi Police received report from Center for DNA Fingerprinting Diogonatic Hyderabad.

Police sources today, Wednesday, January 4, stated that the DNA extracted from bone pieces recovered in the Mehrauli forest area by the Delhi Police has matched with samples of her father.

The bone samples were sent for DNA analysis to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory. 

Meanwhile, it is pertinent to note that Sony TV recently faced massive backlash and outrage on social media after an episode of its famous show Crime Patrol resembled the horrifying murder of Shraddha Walkar.

Viewers and netizens were calling for the boycott of Sony TV as the reportedly showed the prime accused in the case as a Hindu man, and the victim girl who got chopped into pieces as a Christian girl.

After the massive backlash, Sony TV issued a statement on the Crime Patrol episode on their Twitter handle.

The horriffic Shraddha Walkar murder case sent shockwaves across the country. For those unversed, Aftab Poonawalla is accused of killing his live-in partner Shraddha.

Aftab was arrested by Delhi Police on November 19, 2022.

Shraddha and Aftab had met through dating app 'Bumble' in 2018. Later, they shifted to Delhi on May 8, 2022 and stayed in a rented flat. Earlier, both resided in Mumbai.

On May 18, Aftab killed Shraddha, and after chopping her body into 35 pieces dumped them across various places over a period of 18 days.

Soon after this gruesome incident came to light, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured that Delhi Police and prosecution will ensure "strict punishment" to the accused in minimal possible time in the Shraddha Walkar murder case.
