School admission: Man cheated of Rs 30,000

Bhandup – Bhandup police have arrested one Hemant Harish Devadia (33) for cheating parents of students by promising them an admission of their wards in schools. According to the information, Prashant Kadam had applied in the St. Xavier’s School at Kanjur Marg for his son’s admission in the junior KG. As the school rejected his application, Kadam had approached the accused who promised him to get his son admitted to the school from management quota. He also claimed that he will use the clout of his political connections to secure the admission. Believing him, Kadam had given Devadia an amount of Rs 30,000. Devadia handed over a letter to Kadam having the name of a former MP. When Kadam reached the school with the said letter, only then he came to know that he was being cheated. He registered a complaint in Bhandup Police Station. Assistant police inspector Nitin Gije conducted an investigation into the matter and arrested the accused from Sarvodaya Nagar. Police have reportedly received nearly 7 to 8 complaints against Devadia. A local court sent the accused to police custody till 5 November.
