Dahisar- A 12 year old school girl, victim of a hit-and-run case is still waiting for justice.
A week after she was hit by a speeding bike on Dahisar’s Chhatrapati Shivaji road, Famida Sheikh is still waiting for the arrest of the person who rammed into her as she was on her way to school.  Famida who was left unattended on the road at 2 pm on 9 January after the biker fled from the scene, had to have her leg amputated.
Initially, she was taken to the local Ashok hospital and then moved to the Navnit hospital, where doctors had to amputate one leg in order to save her life. Famida's mother is inconsolable. “When we reached Ashok hospital, we did not get the proper treatment. Then we were asked to go to Navnit hospital where doctors asked us to wait. If she had got proper treatment, we could have saved her leg," she says.
Famida, whose father has deserted the family, lives with her mother and four year old sister. Famida's mother works as a domestic help. Neighbours have chipped in to save the girl's life for now.
Police have not arrested anyone and are investigating the case.
