Mumbai: Six people arrested for stealing 2200 TATA marathon medals

Azad Maidan police caught six accused who stole 2200 medals meant for the Tata Mumbai Marathon competition held on Sunday in Mumbai. Medals were kept in tents prepared in the grounds of Bombay Gymkhana.


A complaint was registered with the police that these medals were stolen on Sunday. Azad Maidan Police said that these medals were to be given to the winners of this marathon competition. However, as soon as the organisers came to know that the medals were stolen, they immediately reported them to the police.

Police arrested Vignesh Pandey-Tewar, Nasir Abdul Sheikh, Piramal Balan Gounder, Gautam Salunkhe, Rohit Vijay Singh, Aamir Rafiq Sheikh. The theft took place between 3:00 am and 11:00 am. These medals were kept in 162 boxes. 22 boxes were stolen. It had 2200 medals. The arrested persons are mostly workers. The stolen medals are valued at INR 1.38 lakh. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
