Smuggled gold dropped in dustbin; 3 arrested

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs arrested three persons in seizure of 1.865 kg gold bars worth Rs 56 lakh on Sunday. The yellow metal was seized from a dustbin near a washroom on the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

As per reports, the AIU sleuths were following a passenger on the basis of suspicious travel details of Md. Ashraf Melparamba Amu (29), a resident of Udma village in Kasaragod district of Kerala, who arrived from Dubai by the Emirates flight. The suspicious person dropped two packets containing eight gold bars of 10 tola each in each packet. The officers on his trail thoroughly searched the washroom and in one steel dustbin, they recovered 16 gold bars of 10 tola each totally weighing 1.865 kg valued at Rs. 56,00,000. After recovery, officers mounted surveillance on the said area and noticed after sometime one Sh. Aakash Magar (25), a resident of Goregaon, Mumbai working as a cleaner in M/s SILA Solutions Pvt. Ltd, who was not supposed to be there on his duty, loitering around suspiciously. 

However, he sensed the presence of AIU officers and was seen rushing out of area. He was picked up for interrogation wherein he revealed the role of his one senior Sh. Sumit Dalal (27), a resident of Vikhroli (W), Mumbai who works as an observer in M/s SILA Solutions Pvt. Ltd. On questioning, Sh. Sumit Dalal accepted his role as being the person who would retrieve the gold from the dustbin and carry it outside the Airport. All the above 3 persons were arrested.

M/s SILA Solutions works as housekeeping and facade cleaning for GVK's Jaya He Musuem at CSI Airport.
