On Wednesday, November 25, the state sought orders from the Bombay High Court to halt Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV from running a parallel trial with regards to the TRP scam case.

State counsel Kapil Sibal further stated that a parallel trial would interfere with the administration of justice. The TRP scam case refers to Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh earlier holding a conference on October 8 to speak about the alleged scam with regards to TRP’s propagated by media channels.

In recent developments, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated its investigation into the fake TRP case as the investigative agency has issued summons to an official of Hansa Research Group. This comes after the ED had filed an FIR in the ongoing TRP case last week.

In the past, the Mumbai Crime Branch had stated that they had arrested a former Hansa Research employee named Vinay Tripathi from Uttar Pradesh. Hansa Research happens to be one of BARC’s vendors on engagement with panel homes, or “people’s meters”.

As per officials, the accused apparently played an important role in the scam as he paid another accused to manipulate the ratings. Moreover, the police had also arrested the owners of Box Cinema and Fakt Marathi, who have been accused along with TV channel Republic, regarding the same.

According to sources, Republic TV’s Executive Editor Niranjan Narayanaswamy and Senior Executive Editor Abhishek Kapoor had also appeared before the Police in order to record their statements.
