The alleged theft took place on February 14 at around 6:45 pm in Malad West's Ashok Enclave Apartment. The victim, Aparna Vinayan, shared CCTV footage showing Yegde picking up her phone from a shoe rack just before getting on the elevator.
According to reports, Vinayan had accidentally left her phone on the shoe rack before entering her apartment. Upon realising her mistake, she went back to retrieve her phone but found it missing. She then reviewed the CCTV footage and discovered that Yegde had taken her phone. After the incident, the Mumbai Police asked Vinayan to inform the local station to initiate action against Yegde.

However, Twitter users had mixed reactions to the incident. Some criticised Vinayan for being careless and defended Yegde's actions, stating that he was taking a device that seemingly did not belong to anyone. Meanwhile, other Twitter users, like Philip Kamireddy, complained that their shoes had been stolen by a Swiggy delivery boy. Swiggy responded to Kamireddy's tweet, asking for the order ID to resolve the issue.
