A 17-year-old girl lost her life after being electrocuted in a waterlogged area outside her residential building in Mumbra, Thane, on Wednesday evening.

The victim, Aliya Mohammad Sajid Chandiwala, was leaving Yasmin Apartment in the Kausa area around 8:30 p.m. during heavy rainfall when she allegedly came into contact with electricity that had leaked into the flooded water near the building's iron gate. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Following the incident, Mumbra Police registered an FIR against officials of Torrent Power Limited on charges of alleged negligence. According to the complaint filed by the victim's father, residents had reported recurring voltage fluctuations to the company's official WhatsApp helpline on June 15, but no corrective action was taken.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The tragedy comes just a day after another electrocution-related death in Bhiwandi, where a 26-year-old sweet shop worker, Mustafa Shaikh, died after coming into contact with a live wire. His family and local residents protested, alleging negligence by both the temple management and the power utility. An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered, and the case is under investigation.
