Thane Municipal Corporations's health officer arrested for accepting bribe of INR 5 lakh

As per reports, all the contracts and hospital transactions during the COVID-19 pandemic were done through him, and his act of accepting the bribe was understood recently by the officials.

A team of officials from Thane's Anti-Corruption Bureau, on Thursday, April 8, 2021, arrested a Thane Municipal Corporation health officer for accepting a bribe of INR 5 lakh. As per reports, an official named Dr. Raju Murudkar had demanded a bribe of INR 15 lakh in connection with the purchase of a ventilator machine from a ventilator company.

Murudkar serves as the head of health department of Thane Municipal Corporation and during the COVID-19 pandemic, all contracts and hospital transactions were being done through him. During one of the transactions with Immunoshop India Pvt Ltd, he had tendered a supply of 30 ventilators to Thane Municipal Corporation. It is said that the tender was worth INR 1.5 crore, out of which Murudkar had demanded 10 per cent of the total amount, INR Rs 15 lakh, for its approval. 

Out of this, Murudkar had accepted INR 5 lakh which was taken at Airoli's Lifeline Hospital. The team upon understanding the same, set up a plan to arrest Murudkar red-handed, post which the officials from the anti-corruption department arrested him on Thursday.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in Thane are increasing day by day due to which the demand for ventilator beds is on the rise. Thane Municipal Corporation has taken the initiative to increase the number of ventilator beds, whereby Murudkar played an important role. But unfortunately, it has now been learned that he has been taking advantage of the position.
