Cricket is a gentleman’s game and continues to carry the title forward through fair play. However, it has been affected by several vices over the years which is a matter of concern for fans and players of the game. Cricket has also been infamous for betting and one such bettor, Sonu Yogendra Jalal was poached on Tuesday for betting in IPL.

Thane Police will be imposing the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on Jalal who is the mastermind of the betting scam.

Thane Senior Police Inspector, Pradeep Sharma got the information that betting on IPL was ongoing in Dombivli. After which a police team led by Pradeep Sharma arrested Gautam Sawla (55), Nikhil (25) and Nitish Punjani (55) from Ramnagar area on May 16. From these people the police recovered the material used for betting. After questioning the culprits in Dombivli, the police arrested Rama Bhia (40) from Malad and Bittu Vrajesh Joshi (27) Mulund.

After getting information of Sonu Jalal on May 29, at 7 pm Inspector Rajkumar Kothmire under the leadership of Pradeep Sharma along with Sub Inspector Roshan Devre's team arrested Sonu from Mumbai. In his statement, Sonu blurted out the name of actor Salman Khan’s brother, Arbaaz Khan who was summoned on Saturday.

Sonu has complaints against him in Malad (2008), Oshiwara (2011), Social Service Branch (2011), and Delhi and Ahmedabad (2015) police stations. The police is now preparing to impose MCOCA on Sonu Jalal.
