ATS arrests a gang for supplying fake IDs to Bangladeshi immigrants in Mumbai

ATS received a tip-off and raided the premise of a Bangladeshi immigrant in Mumbai and seized documents and equipment used for making fake passports. The agency also seized a huge amount of Bangladeshi currency, SIM cards, ATM cards etc.

The Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) in Mumbai busted a gang that was helping Bangladeshi infiltrators to settle in the city by giving them fake documents.

According to reports, eight persons have been arrested by the ATS from Mumbai and its suburb. However, the investigation is still underway, said an official.

According to an official statement, ATS received a tip-off and raided the premise of a Bangladeshi immigrant in Mumbai and seized documents and equipment used for making fake passports.

Besides fake documents like Indian passport, Aadhar, Pan Card, forged rubber stamps and cheque books, ATS also seized a huge amount of Bangladeshi currency, mobile phones, Bangladeshi SIM cards, Indian SIM card and ATM Cards.

Accordingly, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Passport Act and Foreigners Act at Kalachowki police station.

Bangladeshi infiltrators are a major problem for the country and their number has been increasing significantly in Mumbai in the last few years. Akram Sheikh, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested from Shivdi Cemetery on November 29 after the ATS Kalachowki unit laid a trap. During his interrogation, he revealed that Mohammad Rafiq Rehmatullah Syed, 42, from Kausa, Mumbra, had issued him the Aadhar card, PAN card and Indian passport so that he could reside in India.

Later, the ATS arrested Syed from Mumbra. Based on these interrogations, the racket was busted.

The probe further revealed that they had smuggled a total of 85 Bangladeshis immigrants into India and helped them secure Indian passports. Syed was preparing fake documents to make Indian identity cards for Idris Mohammad Sheikh (56), Avin Gangadhar Kedare (35) and Nitin Rajaram Nikam (43) were arrested by the ATS for providing fake documents, rubber stamps and other items. Bangladeshis Sohail Abdul Subhan Shaikh (33), Abdul Khair Shaikh (42) and Abdul Kasham Shaikh (26), who have also been arrested.
