Three Arrested in Andheri for Selling Stolen iPhones; 52 Phones Recovered

The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested three persons accused of buying stolen iPhones and selling them in the marketplace. One of the accused happens to be a mobile shop owner from Andheri

It is said that the accused would acquire the stolen iPhones and jailbreak them prior to selling them off. Jailbreaking is a process synonymous with iOS/iPadOS devices wherein the device’s restrictions are removed to achieve full control. This is mostly used by developers to delve deeper into the phone’s features.

It is said that experts have been brought in to ascertain how the accused performed jailbreaking on these iPhones.

Around 52 iPhones along with two hard drives and two jailbreaking software have been recovered from the Andheri shop so far, the police said. The accused, Raes Khiylani (store owner), Asif Dodiya, and Tarif Shaikh have been apprehended by the crime branch. However, the key accused in this case, Mohammed Aribi aka Momo is reportedly on the run.

Jailbreaking software has been around since the early iPhones were released. Today, knowledge of jailbreaking can be learnt via platforms like YouTube wherein one can find step-by-step tutorials on the software. It’s worth pointing out that jailbreaking an Apple device immediately voids its warranty as well.
