In different cases, three individuals from Mumbai were duped whilst attempting to purchase liquor online after picking up phone numbers of wine shops from Google. Altogether they lost nearly INR 2 lakh.

In different cases, three individuals from Mumbai in Maharashtra were duped whilst attempting to purchase liquor online after picking up phone numbers of wine shops from Google, highlighted reports. Altogether they lost nearly INR 2 lakh.

According to reports, in the first occurrence, on December 8, a garment trader who is 77-years-old lodged an FIR with LT Marg police station near Crawford market. He claimed to have received a call from a certain Nita Wines after receiving their number from Google. The fraudster posed as an employee of the real shop. Then asked for an advance payment for which he took his credit card information. Post this, he curated two OTPs and transferred INR 99,000 from the trader’s account.

Based on accounts, in the second occurrence, on December 9, a homemaker who is 58-years-old told Gamdevi police that she was duped of INR 13,500 after calling PK Wines. She ordered liquor from them, adding that a person pretended to be a staffer asked her to make the payment. However, the liquor was never delivered. When she asked for a refund, the fraudster, yet again asked her to pay INR 23,000 to begin the procedure of getting the money back. This is when she realized something was amiss and went to the police.

Narratives cite, in the third occurrence, on December 9, an FIR was registered, by a homemaker who is 29-years-old, also wanted to call for liquor from PK Wines. She was told to make any advance payment but the conman told her that the payment wasn’t received. Then she was made to make payments twice and lost INR 94,000.
