In a surprising development, as soon as Hemant Nagrale took charge as the Police Commissioner of Mumbai, he ordered the transfer of 86 police officers in Mumbai Police which includes 65 officers from the crime branch.

According to reports, the list includes two officers from CIU of Crime Branch, which was headed by suspended API Sachin Waze, who is in NIA custody for the Antilia bomb scare case. Moreover, the two officers, API Prakash Howal and API Riyazuddin Kazi who were questioned by the NIA and Kazi is said to be an important witness in their case. In addition, Kazi has been transferred to the local arms division, which is seen as a punishment posting within the police force whereas Howal has been transferred to Malabar Hill police station.

Meanwhile, with long-serving officers being removed, as per sources, the transfers have occurred with regards to the Sachin Waze case. Also, complaints and resentment have been reported amongst Mumbai Police over the number of transfers that were conducted.

Earlier, the NIA had arrested Sachin Waze on late Saturday night, March 13, in connection with its probe into the recovery of a Scorpio containing 20 gelatin sticks near Mukesh Ambani's house 'Antilia' in south Mumbai on February 25.

Moreover, Waze has been arrested under IPC sections 286 (negligent conduct with respect to explosive substance) 465 (forgery), 473 (making or possessing counterfeit seal, etc with intent to commit forgery), 506(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and relevant provisions of the Explosive Substances Act.
