In an interesting twist in the case of Vijay Mallya, documents connected with the case has gone missing from the apex court files.

A bench comprising Justices U U Lalit and Ashok Bhushan adjourned the hearing to August 20.  It was hearing the review plea filed by Mallya against the judgement where he was found guilty for not paying ₹9,000 crores to the bank despite repeated directions, although, he transferred exorbitant amount of money to his children.

Kingfisher Airlines, established in 2005, was a major business venture launched by Mallya. It eventually became insolvent and had to be closed down. As of October 2013, it had not paid salaries to its employees for 15 months and had lost its license to operate as an airline. As part of the Kingfisher collapse, Mallya is accused of being a "willful defaulter" under Indian law, including accusations of money laundering, misappropriation, etc.

Mallya is also a former Rajya Sabha member and the ex-chairman of United Spirits. He currently continues to serve as chairman of United Breweries Group. Previously, he also served as chairman of Sanofi India and Bayer CropScience, among other companies.

Mallya fled India on March 2, 2016. He was arrested by Scotland Yard, UK police on 18 April 2017. He was released on bail by the London court within hours. The government is trying to extradite Mallya to India. Mallya owes ₹9,000 crores to 17 banks in India.
