In an investigation conducted by the Crime Branch, the police discovered weapons from a Dhananjay Kulkarni’s house, a resident from Dombivali, who is the Vice-President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (Dombivali). The police have alleged that Kulkarni who owns a shop named ‘Tapasya Fashion House’ and uses it as a cover for his business dealing with weapons.
The Police had received information that Kulkarni (49) uses the shop to supply as well as buy weapons. Upon further investigation, the police found more than 170 types of arms from the shop which was registered on paper as a gift shop.
Keeping these allegations in mind, Kulkarni has been arrested under the ‘Arms Act’ and was presented before the court after his arrest. Later, the court sent him to jail.
It was also learnt that Kulkarni would receive weapons from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and would then sell them to the criminals across Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and the residing areas. The police learnt about Kulkarni after the two criminals arrested for loot and robbery were found with guns.
Upon inquiry, the duo revealed Kulkarni’s name and later, police laid a trap to clarify things out.
