As per reports, a 22-year-old woman has registered a complaint against three men for allegedly raping her at a hotel on the Andheri-Kurla road.

In a shocking development, a 22-year-old woman has registered a complaint against three men for allegedly raping her at a hotel on the Andheri Kurla road.

According to the victim, she was invited under the guise of an engagement party along with two other women. Furthermore, she has alleged that she was forced to consume alcohol at the party. The police have identified the main accused as Avinash Pangekar, 28, also a resident of central Mumbai who organised the party on November 8. The other two men have been identified as Shishir, 27, and Tejas, 25. However, all three accused are absconding, as per reports.

A case was registered for rape and common intention under sections 376 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. More charges will be added as the investigation proceeds. Moreover, the complainant was sent to Cooper hospital for a medical test, informed the Sahar police station officials.

In the past, the city of Mumbai had reported the second-highest number of crimes against women after Delhi in the year 2019. Moreover, the city reported 6,519 crimes against women last year which is marginally higher than 6,058 in the year 2018 whereas Delhi reported 12,902 cases against 11,724 in 2018. However, Mumbai ranked third in India with regards to rape cases, falling behind Delhi and Jaipur.
