Thane: TMC initiates Nature Libraries in three civic-run Parks

Whether it's a pleasant morning or a pleasant evening...who wouldn't like to cultivate the love of reading in the lap of nature, in the company of trees. The Thane Municipal Corporation has provided this pleasant opportunity for Thane residents and nature libraries have been started in some parks of the Municipal Corporation. Open libraries in the classrooms for students in Thane municipal schools is the next step of the innovative concept of 'Let's read' and it is an effort to make the parks reading friendly, said Thane Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar.

Nature libraries have been started on pilot basis in three parks namely Lokmanya Tilak Park near Gaondevi Maidan in Naupada, Nakshatra Van Park in Kalwa and Community Park Park in Vartak Nagar. In this library, currently books on gardening, importance of plants and animals, various novels, travelogues, poetry collections, children's literature are available.

Currently, Thane Municipal Corporation and the Tree Authority Department have started a free library for citizens in three parks. Readers can read any of these books while sitting in the park. These books cannot be taken outside the park. The book must be put back in the cupboard when leaving the park. Library timings and park timings will remain the same.

At present around 800 books have been collected for these libraries. They are given by different social organisations, citizens, libraries. The response to the nature libraries in the three parks will be used to decide on the opening of further libraries.
