On the glorious occasion of the 75 years of India’s Independence, Archaeological Survey of India, under the aegis of Ministry of Culture has planned a series of events. To facilitate tourism and raise cultural awareness, the Ministry of Culture has decided to give free access to all citizens from August 5 to August 15, 2022 at all ticketed monuments and historical sites.

Fifty-five Centrally Protected Monuments under ASI Mumbai Circle (located in all eleven sub-circle offices Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, Vasai, Elephanta, Pune, Junnar, Alibaug, Janjira, Kolhapur, Vijaydurg and Sholapur) have been selected for cleanliness Campaign from August 2-15. Local schools, colleges and common people are involved in the cleanliness drive of the monuments and historical structures. 

Under Jal Dharohar Mission, ASI has been involved in the restoration and revival 11 ancient centrally protected water structures in western Maharashtra (Konkan region). Under this mission, students of the various institutes have documented and prepared posters on the topic of water conservation for exhibition at the selected water bodies like Solapur Fort, stepwell, Pantaacha Kot in Karad, Baodi at Ambernath Temple Thane, Cistern at Pataleshwar Caves Pune, kunds of Krishnamai Temple Mahabaleswar, cisterns of Mandapeshwar Caves, Mumbai, Baodi at Jaigad fort, baodi at Jijamata wada, Pachad, cisterns at Tala fort, cisterns at Kanheri caves and tank at Sion fort, Mumbai. These water bodies are being cleaned and conserved by ASI. It is also planned to revive these all water bodies for the further use.

Jal Dharohar Mission is a part of Amrit Sarovar-Jal Dharohar Sanrakshan Mission, which is a special campaign initiated by Government of India through Ministry of Urban Development to create public awareness for water conservation.

To mark the occasion under the Har-Ghar Tiranga campaign, flag hoisting has been planned on all important monuments of ASI and 15mts high flag mast is being installed at five Monuments including- Vijaydurg Fort, Solapur Fort, Mandapeshwar Caves Mumbai, Vasai Fort Palghar and Agakhan Palace Pune.

The main function of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava is planned at the Agakhan Palace, Pune on the morning of August 15, (9.00 am to 11.45 am). Padmashree Awardee, Emeritus Professor K. Paddayya will be the chief guest for the function. Senior Gandhian Veteran Shri Pradeep Munot, has been invited as guest of honour along with other members of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Pune.
