Amazon Prime Video's popular standup comedy show, Comicstaan, was loved by the audience in the first season. Keeping the same in mind, the team at OML has decided to take the search to the land of Tamilians, with the first season of Comicstaan Tamil.

The search for the contestants was announced a few months back and now the team has started taping the same at Chennai's Thaamara Studios. Three top comedic minds from Tamil Standup comedy space - Praveen Kumar, Karthik Kumar, and Rajmohan - will be the mentors and judges in the show, and will have the responsibility to find the next big Tamil Stand Up Comic. The show will be hosted by the hilarious Vidyullekha Raman & Mervyn Rozario. The winner of the show will be awarded a cash prize of ₹10 Lakhs.

Talking about how comedy in the regional languages is getting its due importance, the judges (of Comicstaan 2) Kenny Sebastian, Kaneez Surka and Zakir Khan, said, "There is already a Tamil version of Comicstaan being taped. We believe regional is the future. The intensity and the comic element of the jokes increase when it is being said in any regional language, as the audience relates to it more. But on the other hand, we should all embrace different languages and different kind of comedy. If we restrict to Hindi and English only, then we would not be able to find new voices and artistes."

Besides Comicstaan, Amazon Prime Video and OML, are all set to present Comicstaan 2, the second season of the popular standup show. The teaser for the same was released a few days back, and the show will be launched in Mumbai. The team this year will see Kanan Gill, Kaneez Surka, Zakir Khan, Neeti Palta, Sumukhi Suresh, Biswa Kalyan Rath and Kenny Sebastian as mentors and judges. Abish Matthew will be hosting the show with a new co-host.
