Just a day after Varsha Gaikwad, School Education Minister stated that schools might not reopen soon in Maharashtra, state Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday said that it will be a relief for both parents if both teaching and non-teaching staff are fully vaccinated.

However, the final decision will be taken by the chief minister Uddhav Thackeray post his discussion with the Sate Covid-19 Taskforce, which takes place on Sunday. While addressing the media he said “The chief minister will take a final decision on reopening of school after discussing it with the Task Force on Covid-19 headed by Dr Sanjay Oak. Kerala and Maharashtra are the two states which have reported a surge in Covid patients and against that backdrop, the Centre has asked for the imposition of restrictions”.

He also that even though the State Education Minister had earlier given a date for the reopening of schools, the final decision will be taken by the CM. The date will be announced only after he discusses the matter with the Task Force.

He also said that until a decision is taken “we will fully vaccinate teaching and non-teaching staff in schools, be they Zilla Parishad or government schools, grant or non-grant institutions. By this, even parents will be relieved to an extent if both doses of the vaccine are administered to teachers and other staff of the school their child is attending”.
