Once again, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to provide flavoured milk to civic school students. The same will be supplied by Mahanand who will provide tetra packs. But the decision is pending as group leaders (all parties) have not ruled out a decision.

Maharashtra State Cooperative Milk Federation Limited’s Managing Director (Mahanand Dairy) Dilip Shinde wrote to the BMC that they are ready to supply tetra packs of milk.

This scheme was launched in 2007-08 and it was active for a year. But, soon many school students reportedly fell sick and were hospitalised. It was then shut down and started again only to shut down later.

In 2011, in a letter issued by the then Chief Secretary Ratnakar Gaikwad, he had mentioned about the civic body should supply Mahanand milk to the school students. Therefore, 'Mahanand' has demanded supply of their product to the children in their schools.
