The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday began accepting the online and offline applications for its first ICSE and CBSE schools in Mumbai. BMC is planning to start the next academic year classes from pre-primary to Standard II. If the civic body receives a minimum enrollment of 10 students per class, it will then extend the initiative to Class VI.

For which, the municipal corporation is setting up facilitation centres at both the schools - Woollen Mills, Mahim and Poonam Nagar, Jogeshwari. The interested parents can collect and submit the offline forms at the help desk of these schools between 10:30 am and 4:30 pm up to  March 12.

The applications will be scrutinised by the concerned officials and once the primary scrutiny is completed, parents of the shortlisted applicants will be called for a counselling session.

Meanwhile, the admissions will be open to students studying in any board or medium. Joint BMC Commissioner Ashutosh Salil said that they won't deny any student admission just because they have studied in a non-English medium school.

The applications will be shortlisted through a lottery system for a class in case the number of applicants for a class goes above 40 students. Students residing within a three-km radius of the school will be receiving a preference for admission.

Meanwhile, Marathi will be a compulsory language for all the students securing admission.

The admission process was announced during an educational program held by the BMC where the municipal school students showcased their talents. Speaking at the event, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said,

"I came here to motivate students but we, the officials are motivated. Marathi schools will never shut down from now on."

State Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray along with Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar was present at the event. Alongside, political figures such as Varsha Gaikwad, Arvind Sawant, Zeeshan Siddique also graced the BMC event.
