On Sunday, May 23, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal enlightened that an "informed, collaborative" decision will be taken by June 1 with regards to the class 12 board examinations.

However, according to reports, states like Maharashtra at a high-level meeting on Sunday informed that the "non-examination route" for Class 12 students should be actively examined. Moreover, Delhi and Kerala governments suggested vaccinating students before the examinations.

Meanwhile, the CBSE has proposed conducting the board examinations between July 15 and August 26. It further proposed for the result to be declared in September. In addition, the board proposed two options: conducting regular examinations for 19 major subjects at notified centres or conducting shorter duration examinations at respective schools where students are enrolled.

On the other hand, earlier on April 14, the Education Ministry, after consultation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi had decided to postpone the CBSE class 12 board examinations. The Congress party had earlier urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the cancellations of examinations amidst the pandemic. It further thanked PM Modi for listening to the advice of party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over the CBSE board examinations. Soon after the government announced to cancel Class 10 exams and postpone Class 12 exams, the grand old party in a cryptic tweet said that it is good that “BJP finally put the nation over ego”.
