The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced an extension of the submission date for Class X scores based on internal assessments.

Scores can now be submitted by the 30th of June, granting much-needed respite to teachers and other staff during the coronavirus pandemic. It is also said that the Maharashtra State Board might consider a similar approach towards evaluations. Meanwhile, the fate of CBSE Class XII exams is still uncertain.

CBSE had recently instituted an eight-member results committee with a deadline of completing the evaluation by June 11 while the board was to announce the results by June 20. CBSE’s Controller of Examinations, Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj said that the decision to extend the deadline was taken keeping the safety of the people involved, especially teachers and non-teaching staff.

While the extension for submitting marks has been provided, CBSE is yet to announce the date of the final results. But given the timeframe, one can expect the final results to be released sometime in July.

As for students covered by the state board, an official said that a conclusive decision on evaluating students will be taken in a few days. The official added that since offline or in-person examinations are pretty much ruled out, the state board might consider scrapping the notion of a common entrance test this year.

Furthermore, the state is reportedly looking into suggestions from several college principals to evaluate Class X students based on their scores from Class VIII and IX.
