Academics are an integral part of a student’s life as they shape an individual’s cognitive abilities whereas, on the other hand, sports also hold an equal share in the student’s life. However, when put in a situation to choose between participating in an international sporting event and board exams, if the dates clash, it is likely that a student will prefer to appear for the exams.

But soon the students from Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) will be able to make the choice with ease as the board has announced that students representing India in an international sporting event recognised by the Sports Authority can give their board examinations later.

They also stated that the students will be given the liberty to decide the date for the exams (before the declaration of results) as per convenience.

Accordingly, on Wednesday, a circular for the same was issued to all the school principals affiliated to CBSE. The circular is a relief for the students who will now be able to represent India internationally without an adverse effect on their studies. Earlier this year, a similar facility was offered to nine students for March-April 2018 board exams by CBSE.

The students have been asked to make a request in writing to the CBSE through their schools besides the recommendations from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) informing about their participation along with the dates. The schools have been asked to communicate with their regional CBSE office by January 31, 2019.

While CBSE has taken a step forward to provide students with the facility, it is now expected that the state board also comes up with such facilities for its students.
