College teachers on hunger strike

Fort - Teachers in colleges affiliated to Mumbai University staged a day-long hunger strike against harassment as well as their demand for timely salaries. They agitated here on Friday. Bombay University and College Teachers Union general secretary Dr Madhu Paranjape said, “Teachers at non-granted engineering colleges affiliated to the Mumbai University are being harassed unnecessarily. Their issues were put up before the state government but still teachers are not getting their salaries on time. The rules of the university are often flouted and if a teacher complains it costs him with his job. No representative of college teachers is being nominated on university body and the university is working as per the whims and fancies of the vice-chancellor and a few officers.”
