Teachers should now spend at least 3 Minutes to assess an answer sheet: Mumbai University

A new version of the paper-checking software Trac Mark – 2.5 has now been implemented wherein it will make sure that the teacher has spent at least three minutes assessing the paper and there is no upper limit on the time.

In a bid to reduce the cases of re-evaluation, Mumbai University has now ensured that teachers at least spend three minutes checking one paper. A new version of the paper-checking software- Trac Mark – 2.5 has now been implemented wherein it will make sure that the teacher has spent at least three minutes assessing the paper and there is no upper limit on the time.

Earlier, teachers had claimed that they spent one and a half minute to assess the paper. But this move is aimed to allow the teachers to go through all the answers carefully before submission and will ensure that teachers don't make careless mistakes. However, it has its own set of drawbacks as well. The main aim should be making the teachers accountable for the mistakes that they do.

The revaluation result takes over 4 months to be declared which raises concerns for students who apply for further studies in other institutions or abroad. Taking into note the final result after re-evaluation, over 99 per cent of student's marks are increased and only 1 per cent of student's marks are decreased. Notably, Mumbai University earned whopping 11 crores In 3 years through exam reassessment. Here's the data as per the report submitted:

Talking about the same, a professor from Mumbai University on the condition of anonymity said, "It is a solemn duty of every teacher assessing paper to do justice to the student. Every paper should be assessed in not less than 15 minutes. This will ensure that the script is read and reflected before marks are allocated."
