The state government of Maharashtra recently offered a piece of comforting news for students of Standard 10 in the state and announced that the deadline for filing applications for the examinations has now been extended till January 25, 2021.

As per the earlier schedule, the application deadline was set as Monday, January 11, 2021, however, more than 50 per cent of the students have not been able to fill the examination forms. Keeping this in mind, the Board of Education extended the deadline for filing applications.

Currently, schools in Mumbai have not started due to coronavirus lockdown, due to which the students have not been able to visit the school to the examination forms. This had led to a significant drop in the number of applications. Currently, 30 to 40 per cent of students are yet to fill the same, and the deadline extension will offer them relief for the same and help in filling the application on a timely basis.

The information was shared from the department officials and School Education Minister Varshan Gaikwad further added that attempts are being made to improve the matriculation examination process. Moreover, the education department is focusing on streamlining the academic year which was earlier disrupted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Currently, classes for students from grades 9-12 have been started in most parts of the state except Mumbai and Thane. The decision regarding starting schools for grades 5-8 will also be taken soon.
