Mumbai University (MU) has permitted conducting semester-end examinations of first-year students from science, arts and commerce colleges till January 9, 2021.
Moreover, in a circular dated November 18, the earlier deadline to finish the examinations was December 31. However, several teachers and college principals had complained as the mandatory 90 teaching days were not met as the academic session had started late for the students due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
The degree college teachers had earlier suggested that the first-year examinations be postponed to end of January 2021, adding that that the university release an official circular as soon as possible. This comes in less than two weeks after the organisation, in their previous letter, claimed that several colleges have not managed to teach the mandatory 90 days before the examinations a result of the delay in admissions to first-year courses which makes it impossible to hold the examinations in the month of December.
Meanwhile, earlier in the October examinations for the outgoing batch of 2019-20, there were 25 MCQs. However, this time, the MU might change the pattern and add more questions. Moreover, proctoring or digital supervision will be made mandatory and cases of malpractices will be dealt with strictly.
Mumbai University had earlier issued guidelines with regards to the deployment of online software in view of the final-year examinations. The University of Mumbai, in its circular, had stated that there will be the use of proctoring or digital supervision, with or without a camera in order to conduct the examinations online. This deployment will be held across 750 affiliated colleges for 2.5 lakh students. Moreover, the circular mentions that the software can be accessed on laptops, desktops or mobile phones, keeping in mind the convenience of all students.
